Recently, our Dallas ISD students had the unique opportunity to actively engage in a once-in-a-lifetime event: a total solar eclipse passing over Dallas. With the guidance of our dedicated teachers, the support of our team members, and the involvement of parents, this historic event became a significant learning experience for all. Each school prepared lessons and activities, and our students gathered to observe the eclipse. This active participation not only enriched their understanding but also sparked curiosity about potential career paths in astronomy, space exploration, and scientific discovery.

Pre-K enrollment season is here

The enrollment period for pre-K for the 2023-2024 school year began April 1. Pre-K education provides a strong foundation for your child’s future, equipping them with essential social and emotional skills and boosting their learning potential. We invite you to explore our programs at www.dallasisd.org/prek and take the first step towards a bright educational future for your child.

Pledging a path to the future

More than 150 P-TECH students from six schools offering the education pathway—including 37 from our own W.T. White High School—signed “letters of intent,” ensuring they will have a teaching job in the district after earning their bachelor’s degree and teaching certifications. Ensuring a paying job even before starting college takes a lot of pressure off our students, knowing that they have a job with at least a $62,000 salary right after graduation from college.

Welcome to the new Dallas ISD Police Chief

Join me in welcoming Dallas ISD’s new Police Chief, Albert Martinez, who assumed his role last month. With a lifelong dedication to education, he prioritizes safety and security in all schools, aligning with district and state mandates. Building on the groundwork laid by his predecessor, Martinez will stress the importance of collaborating with parents and stakeholders to tackle safety challenges in our schools and create a shared sense of community.

Farewell

Finally, I express my profound gratitude for serving as Trustee for District 1 for over 16 years. My journey with Dallas ISD has been driven by a deep commitment to the students and community. I am immensely proud of our schools’ accomplishments, and I am confident they will continue to excel in the capable hands of our dedicated educators. To the Dallas ISD community, including students, parents, educators, team members, and fellow board members, I extend my heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your trustee, and I am forever grateful. Farewell, and may the spirit of learning and progress thrive within Dallas ISD.

Trustee Edwin Flores, District 1
