The Mavericks’ new practice facility cost $70 million, and Preston Hollow’s Mark Cuban is dreaming bigger than that

Preston Hollow neighbor Mark Cuban just revealed the Mavericks’ new $70-million practice facility, and that’s only a piece of his plans for the property.

According to the Dallas Business Journal, Cuban bought the 14-acre Dallas Design District property in June. The temporary double-court training facility, located across from the American Airlines Center, is part of a multi-phase project that includes a new arena.

“I bought 14 acres, right?” Cuban said in a SportsDay article. “We also have the building next door, the building behind. There’s lots of things we plan on doing. The idea here with an existing structure was just to get something open so we could practice close by. But in terms of the 14 acres, I have a lot of plans to do a lot more.”

Since the Mavericks have a lease with the American Airlines Center for 14 more years, according to SportsDay, Cuban won’t begin planning the arena for another seven years.

In the meanwhile, the warehouse-turned-training-facility will help the Mavericks keep up with its competition — not to mention that Preston Hollow’s Dirk Nowitzki called the facility “beautiful.”
