Two Preston Hollow-area graduates have been placed with NBA teams following the draft, including St. Mark’s School of Texas grad Harrison Ingram with the San Antonio Spurs and Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas grad Max Abmas with the Utah Jazz summer league.
Born in Dallas, Ingram graduated from St. Mark’s School of Texas and played college basketball at Stanford University in California. Ingram recently transferred to the University of North Carolina to become a North Carolina Tar Heel.
His rise in prominence as a collegiate basketball player caught the attention of the San Antonio Spurs at the NBA draft last week. The Spurs welcomed Ingram and Stephon Castle to the team. Ingram was the 48th overall draft pick for the team.
Ingram plays multiple positions and is most comfortable with his spot-up shooting, a talent the Spurs need.
“I like to do whatever it takes to win,” Ingram said. “Whatever Coach Pop asks of me, I’ll be ready to do.”
Ingram will start with the Spurs’ summer league group in Sacramento. His first game will take place on July 6 against the Charlotte Hornets.
Max Abmas also saw success at the 2024 NBA draft. After graduating from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, Abmas played basketball at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He then transferred to play a season at the University of Texas at Austin.
Abmas scored an average of 19.9 points per game throughout his college seasons. This earned him an eighth-place position on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list. His college basketball career came to an end after a loss to Tenessee during March Madness.
“I’m super grateful for the opportunity to compete at Texas,” Abmas said after the Tennessee March Madness defeat to The Daily Texan. “I never, in high school, would’ve guessed that I would be at Texas in college. Super grateful for (Rodney Terry) and the whole coaching staff for believing in me.”
While Abmas did not sign a full-season contract with the Utah Jazz, he did sign a free-agent contract to play for the team in the 2024 NBA summer league. The league will run July 12-22.
