At the beginning of this year, we wrote about the plans to bring the International Baccalaureate Program to Preston Hollow Elementary and its feeder schools, Franklin and Hillcrest.

Preston Hollow Elementary is now in the implementation phase, meaning the teachers and staff must demonstrate success with the new curriculum before receiving an official designation. The entire process takes three years.

The new program has introduced more school choice to our neighborhood with the potential to attract more families who might otherwise opt for private schools.

IB would replace the current curriculum at the elementary and middle school levels. It’s an opt-in program at the high school level. The idea behind IB focuses on trans-disciplinary, cross-cultural education aimed at developing better critical-thinking skills and helping students, essentially, “learn how to learn.”

Dallas ISD trustee Mike Morath will speak about the program 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church. To learn more about IB, go here. Email questions to prestonhollowibschools@gmail.com.
