Hillcrest Forest Fourth of July Parade

What’s more hometown than a Fourth of July parade? The Hillcrest Forest Neighborhood Association once again hosts the Independence Day bash, and you’re invited to join in the fun. On the Fourth of July, the day will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Arthur Kramer Elementary School, with breakfast snacks provided by Whole Foods, along with balloon animals and face painting. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. From vintage cars to walkers dressed in their best red, white and blue, the whole neighborhood is invited to come out to watch or participate. A Dallas firetruck will lead the way. Dress up your pooch for a chance to win a prize from Hollywood Feed.

We won’t have fireworks in our neighborhood, but hop over to Fair Park to catch the biggest pyrotechnic showcase in Dallas at 9:37 p.m. The Cotton Bowl opens at 5 p.m. for viewing, and there is also a daylong festival when the Midway opens with rides, fair food and music. Get all the details here.

If you need to get out of the heat, consider a visit to a local museum. You can get surreal with the Salvador Dali exhibit at the Meadows Museum, on display through Aug. 7. Or slip into the impressionistic work of Henrietta Milan at the Biblical Museum of Art. Military families can get free admission to the The Frontiers of Flight Museum through Labor Day; for those who haven’t served, here’s a coupon for a free child’s ticket.
