Susan Myers, a neighborhood resident, is just wrapping up her first season as receivers’ coach for the Prince of Peace High School football team in Carrollton, making her what is believed to be the only female football coach in Texas. Following the lead of an October DMN story, USA Today ran a story about her recently, and she also was featured in the Wall Street Journal Friday (but their website, still not accessible free of charge despite new owner Rupert Murdoch’s planned switch in that direction, doesn’t allow me to link to that story). The USA Today piece gives a pretty good indication of the type of person Myers is: former investment banker, breast cancer survivor, and gritty self-taught wide-receiver coach capable of going toe-to-toe with young football players. She’s even an author on receiver strategy: Her book about coaching wide receivers is on the bookshelf of Texas Tech coach Mike Leach. (Maybe it did him some good over the weekend during Tech’s victory of OU.)
