I’ve got a handful of friends who anticipate this time of year solely for the pecan pies at the grocery store, or the peppermint mochas at Starbucks. But I, however, wait all year for the pumpkin custard at Thai Soon. In know it’s a bit of drive, but this hard-to-find Thai dessert is worth it, really. This sweet, fluffy custard (think pumpkin pie but lighter and creamier) is baked inside miniature pumpkins — so it’s delicious, and adorable.

During autumn, I like to pair that with a bowl of the coconut soup. One bowl is big enough for two to share, and because it’s full of chicken and potatoes, it’s filling. Or, if you go for lunch, take advantage of one of the lunch specials, which includes an egg roll and your choice of soup or salad — not a bad deal for about $8.
