I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions. I’m not trying to lose weight. And I don’t plan on quitting any bad habits. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the healthier things in life — like a good salad.

Among other healthy spots, we featured Snappy Salads in our January issue, which is out now. Snappy Salads allows people to customize a salad with several types of lettuce and all the ingredients you might need. But you certainly can’t go wrong ordering a staple like the Cobb salad, the restaurant’s No. 1 seller.

I don’t even like Cobb salad. But this is unlike any other I’ve had. It comes in a large silver bowl (that’s the half-snap; they also offer the full-snap which is even bigger) with iceberg and romaine lettuce. Then, it’s topped with tomatoes, chives, crumbled egg, bacon, grilled chicken, Gorgonzola and fresh avocado (my weakness).

The dressing is what sets this salad apart. The restaurant’s signature Original Brown Derby Cobb dressing. It doesn’t have much flavor on its own but rather enhances the flavors of all the other ingredients. And the dressing only has 54 calories, so I didn’t feel guilty scraping the bowl clean.

Another healthier eating option in the neighborhood is My Fit Foods, which seems to be taking over Preston Hollow and the Park Cities, with yet another location going in near Southern Methodist University. At this grab-and-go joint, you just take perfectly proportioned meals, heat them up and you’re all set. Plenty of success stories have come out of this place, and it offers some encouragement with its 21-day Challenge to lose weight. I’m betting the line will be out the door come Jan. 2.

Other spots to check out: New Start Veggie Garden (for those looking to cut out meat or go completely vegan), Southpaws Organic Cafe (try the popular ZaZa rice bowl for a good, clean meal) and Salata for another “salad bar” option.
