The city council today will look at authorizing a contract to reconstruct three streets in Preston Hollow: Aberdeen from Preston to Tulane, Merit from Park Central to Clodus Fields (behind Medical City Hospital), and Weeburn from Marsh to Mid Pines. The projects were included in the 2012 bond program and will cost $294,646, according to the agenda.

The plan is to replace the deteriorating concrete with new reinforced pavement, storm drainage, and water waste water improvements. But it will take a while. If the council approves it, engineers will begin the design in January, but construction won’t start until April 2015. It’s scheduled to be complete in September 2016.

Believe it or not, District 13, which includes the west side of Preston Hollow, has the most unsatisfactory streets in the entire city, and these three projects are just drops in the bucket. I was chatting with Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates last week at her office when her assistant brought out the map to prove it. Even some of the wealthiest areas are in the red, including the streets along the homes of Mayor Mike Rawlings and T. Boone Pickens.

Oh, and alleys? They’re even worse.
