Hillcrest High School students Nawres Aljuaifari and Alondra Valdez.

The Advocate staff got a behind-the-scenes look at Hillcrest High School today as we interviewed senior Hector Castellano Camejo (not pictured) for our May cover story about graduating seniors with inspiring stories.

Hector is equally at home playing violin as concertmaster of his school’s orchestra as he is studying at the school’s Academy of Engineering. He played the instrument today for our photo shoot while fellow students Nawres Aljuaifari and Alondra Valdez completed an assignment for their “Principles of Engineering” class.

Hillcrest’s Academy of Engineering Lead Teacher Diane Combs has already mentored student Jewell Sterling, who earned national recognition for her project, which encourages healthier habits at school. Sterling received an all-expense paid trip to New York City to meet with Shark Tank judge Daymond John.

Watch for the May issue of the Preston Hollow Advocate, which will feature three graduating students and their tales of resilience.
