Welcome back! School starts August 20

It’s time to kick off another school year, and I’m excited about the many opportunities waiting for students. From our youngest learners in expanded pre-K, to middle and high school students enrolled in our most innovative programs, Dallas ISD’s educational landscape and offerings includes something for every student.

I’m particularly proud and excited about the new happenings in District 1.

E.D. Walker Middle School and Walnut Hill Elementary Schoolnow offer the new Talented and Gifted Enrichment Program, which will feature project based learning, leadership opportunities, real-world learning experiences and after-school enrichment activities.

Anne Frank Early Childhood Center will welcome in some of the district’s youngest students.  The early childhood center, which is a separate building but part of Anne Frank Elementary School, will have one classroom for 3-year-old pre-K and six classrooms for 4-year-old pre-K. The center was funded by the 2015 Bridge Project, and is a valuable resource in developing our youngest students’ social and emotional learning abilities, fine motor skills, and basics of learning.

In other news, I would like to welcome new campus principals joining the District 1 family:

  • Carlos Romero Uridales, Herbert Marcus Elementary
  • Oscar Nandapaya, F. P. Caillet Elementary
  • Beth Wing, George Bannerman Dealey Montessori Academy

Every day counts in your child’s education, so don’t forget that Monday, August 20 is the first day of school. We can’t wait to work with each student to make 2018-2019 a great school year!

To help with a smooth Back to School transition, the district has a hotline available throughout the entire first week of school; that number is: 972-925-5437.

Thank you for choosing Dallas ISD! It’s going to be a great year.

Trustee Edwin Flores, District 1
