Tornado damage in Preston Hollow

Dallas City Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates reported that City Council was briefed on the tornado recovery efforts and the financial impact of the storm. Here are the highlights:

* FEMA has until November 30th to respond to the request for a disaster declaration.
* To receive a presidential disaster declaration, the federal threshold for uninsured loss is $38.5 million. The City believes there will be approximately $60 million in uninsured loss, according to Gates. The bulk of this is in City infrastructure — signals, street signage, roadway, personnel overtime, contract crews, and emergency procurement.
* About 150,000 residents were impacted by the tornadoes, which ripped through the City in 35 minutes. In the 12 miles of the tornado’s path through Dallas, 905 structures were impacted, some completely destroyed while others only sustained minor damage.
* The estimated debris total is between 250,000 and 300,000 cubic yards.
* There are 15,811 street signs in the area impacted by the tornado. Of those, approximately 7,000 were damaged.
