Screenwriter and Hockaday graduate Kristin Tucker returned to Dallas as the invited speaker for the postponed 2020 graduation ceremony at The Hockaday School.

Tucker was president of her senior class at Hockaday and gave a shoutout to the class of 1999 in her speech.

“It was a privilege to be asked to be the commencement speaker and to be a part of this incredible tradition, particularly at this time in history,” Tucker told Dallas Weekly.

She joins a powerful group of past commencement speakers for the school, including Eleanor Roosevelt, Barbara Bush, Ann Richards, Gloria Steinem, Robin Roberts, Gertrude Stein, and Cynt Marshall.

Tucker completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California (USC) and then moved to the University of Texas at Austin for her Masters of Arts in Screenwriting.

To name a few of her milestones, Tucker has won the sitcom division of Scriptapalooza. She was one of the semi-finalists in the Austin Film Festival and was one of the writers accepted into NBC’s Writers on the Verge program.

Her screenwriting first made its debut for Disney Channel’s Dog With A BlogShe has also worked as a writer’s assistant to the Showtime series Black Monday, a Hartbeat Productions on a Kevin Hart project for Netflix.

As for what she’s up to now, HBO’s Emmy-nominated comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show hired her as a writer. It’s the first production featuring all Black, female writers.
