If you’re tired of using your credit card to pay for tickets to watch the Mavericks play, you’re in luck: The team will now begin accepting Dogecoin.

The news was first reported by the New York Times on March 4 and later announced in a Tweet by the Dallas Mavericks organization.

“The Mavericks have decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets and merchandise for one very important, earth shattering reason, because we can!” says Preston Hollow neighbor and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

Purchases made using Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency launched in 2013, will be processed by BitPay. Dogecoin is based on a meme of a Shiba Inu dog and has recently been endorsed by celebrities including Snoop Dogg and Elon Musk.

“For those of you who would like to learn more about Dogecoin, we strongly encourage you to talk to your teenagers who are on TikTok and ask them about it. They will be able to explain it all to you,” Cuban says.

The decision makes the Mavericks the first N.B.A. team to adopt the cryptocurrency.
