The expansion of the Northaven Trail across North Central Expressway is underway as bridge girders are installed.

The girders, now placed on the west side of Central Expressway, will support the bridge to allow the trail to cross the highway and connect to other trails, including the SoPac and White Rock Creek trails. Though the SoPac Trail doesn’t currently extend past Greenville Avenue, it will be extended north past Royal Lane to meet the Northaven Trail.

The SoPac Trail will be extended to meet the Northaven Trail.

Construction crews have also been working on changes to Northaven Road and Valleydale Drive. A bicycle boulevard will be installed on Valleydale from the Northaven Trail to Northaven Road, and there will be a two-way bike lane on Northaven from Valleydale to the bridge. Other changes to Valleydale include sidewalk improvements, signage, striping, pavement markings and wayfinding to identify Valleydale as a bike and pedestrian route.

Northaven Road improvements include changes to sidewalks, striping, signage, wayfinding and bike-lane delineators to create a separated space for cyclists and continuous sidewalks for pedestrians.

Earlier this year, we reported the Northaven Trail was getting two new crosswalks, crossing trail intersections with Edgemere Road and St. Michaels Drive.

Groundbreaking on the Northaven Trail extension began in May.
