F.P. Calliet Elementary students flexed their green thumbs this Friday.

Students, staff and volunteers teamed up with Texas Trees Foundation to plant 91 previously potted trees around campus as part of the Cool Schools program.

The program is designed to provide green strategies and plant trees at Dallas ISD schools to increase the local tree canopy to 30%.

As part of the program and its designation as a Cool School Neighborhood Park, Calliet Elementary will receive a new outdoor classroom, custom playground, seating and a walking trail.

“We are excited about all the amenities we were able to bring to Dallas ISD’s Calliet Elementary and are so appreciative of Principal Nandayapa’s guidance and support along the way,” said Texas Trees Foundation Cool Schools Manager Samantha Bradley in the press release.

The aim of the Cool Schools Neighborhood Park transformation is to increase park access in Dallas by converting the schoolyard into a public park after hours and on weekends.
