Theft of objects from a motor vehicle is the largest category of crime in our neighborhood, according to the city council’s weekly crime briefing.

District 13, which includes Preston Hollow, had 57 thefts from motor vehicles reported from September 29-October 4. This isn’t the only automobile-related crime with high occurrences, either.

“District 13 has seen an 18.71% rise in crimes against property this year, almost all is automobile-related crime,” Councilmember Gay Donnell Willis said in a recent newsletter.

In order to prevent these crimes, Willis reminds District 13 constituents to park in a garage or well-lit area, take your valuables with you when you leave your car, lock your car doors at all times and hide any valuable items that you leave in your car.

Dallas Police Department encourages victims of non-emergency crimes like thefts from motor vehicles to report the crime to the Dallas Online Reporting System.
