The Hockaday School has named Class of 2008 grad Ivy Awino, this year’s Distinguished Alumna.

Awino, also known as DJ Poison Ivy,  is an international DJ, host, model and interviewer. She was the first female mixer at WKKV-FM as a V100.7 Mix Squad DJ and the Dallas Mavericks’ first female team DJ.

That only scratches the surface of what she’s accomplished in her career. She’s also an Emmy winner and was on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list in 2019.

“I want to be remembered as the Daisy that grew from concrete,” said Awino on the Hockaday School blog. “The foundation of the woman I am today was built on and guided by Ela Hockaday’s cornerstones; her vision of the values and characteristics that would distinguish graduates of this illustrious institution as reference points for all other stones laid subsequent to them.”

The award— named in honor of the girls’ school founder, Ela Hockaday— recognizes alumna who have impacted their communities, professions and families. Women who  are leaders in their fields and expected to lead by example for Hockaday girls are also eligible for the award.
