Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a fire early Saturday morning at the old Valley View mall.

Shortly after midnight, 50 firefighters responded to a fire at the remains of the former mall. The two-alarm fire occurred near the empty AMC movie theater. Once the firefighters arrived, most of the fire had burned itself out, including a fire on the floor above.

It took almost four hours to extinguish the fire. Most of that time was used to ventilate smoke from the building and confirm that no other fires were on the premises.

A homeless man escaping the fire was rescued from the roof by Dallas Fire-Rescue. He was not injured and is not believed to have had any involvement with the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is still being investigated.

Valley View mall has been vacant for over a decade. It was bought in 2012 by developers with plans to turn the lot into Dallas International District, a live-work-play community with a new Pre- K- 12  STEAM Academy. The former Valley View mall is located at 13331 Preston Road.
