Neighborhood Night Out

Coming up April 6 at 5:30 p.m., we will be showcasing our neighborhood campuses. You will be able to register for your campus and learn about the benefits of the schools right here in your neighborhood. For more information pertaining to this event, please visit our website at Dallasisd.org/neighborhoodschools.

Meals will be available during spring break

Dallas ISD will be closed March 13-17 for spring break. However, to ensure that all our students have access to nutritious food during this time, some schools will open for a few days to provide free meals for children younger than 18 and students up to 21 with disabilities. To learn more about the dates and the list of participating schools, visitwww.dallasisd.org/FCNS.

 Celebrating our student athletes

More than 80 Dallas ISD student-athletes recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college. I want to congratulate Desmond Douglas and Veronica Rodriquez from Thomas Jefferson High School, as well as Gabe Jones, Jaydyn Sisk, Justin Joof, Lon Jordon and Jimmy Trilla from W.T. White, who committed to continue participating in sports while attending their respective colleges.

Good things in District 1

I want to commend E.D. Walker Middle School for launching a new parent program called Alpha Pack. This program aims to build a school community that emphasizes academic excellence, community engagement and appropriate social behavior. Volunteers help provide adult interaction that enhances the educational experience for students while supporting teachers and staff.

Finally, the safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance.  Earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet many of our District 1 families for a community meeting at W.T. White High School to discuss the dangers of the drug fentanyl in our community. As many of you have heard, this is an increasing problem that we have been fortunate enough to have avoided in our school district, but we must remain vigilant. Thank you to all our community partners in law enforcement, counseling services and community leaders

The best form of defense against substance abuse is to keep open communication with your students about the dangers of this particular drug and to report any concerns to your school administration or the police. Together we can ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for learning!
