A group of seven fifth-graders at St. Mark’s School took third place overall in the First LEGO League State Championship.

The RoboRoar Team won the Robot Performance Award after competing virtually against the top 50 teams over spring break. The First Lego League program has four parts: robot game, innovation project, presentation and core values evaluation.

First established in 1998, the First LEGO League introduces STEM to children ages 4-16 through hands-on learning.

“This is a huge accomplishment for our team of fifth graders who were competing against teams of seventh and eighth graders,” said Makerspace director and Robotics Team sponsor Stewart Mayer on the St. Mark’s School blog. “It has been a long six-month journey with quite a surprise ending.”
