Hockaday School senior Ava Tribolet was awarded the Jefferson Scholars Foundation scholarship at the University of Virginia.

The Jefferson Scholarship is one of two scholarship programs at the University of Virginia whose goal is to gather outstanding undergraduate students and provide them with financial support to pursue their passions and develop their talents for the good of the University and beyond. The award for the Jefferson Scholarship is intended to cover the entire cost of attendance for four years at the University of Virginia, plus coverage of supplemental enrichment experiences.

Applicants for this scholarship undergo a highly competitive selection process. The applicants must be nominated by eligible schools or affiliated organizations. Nominees are based on academics but their potential to be exceptional leaders and citizens. After being nominated they go through one round of regional interviews. If selected from regionals, applicants go through a final round of interviews before the final selection. This year over 2,3000 students were nominated for this scholarship and 150 students were selected as finalists.

Tribolet was one of 38 recipients of the scholarship and will be attending the University of Virginia in the fall.

Tribolet will join a cohort of 158 scholars that are currently funded by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation. In addition to receiving a full ride to the University of Virginia for four years, Jefferson Scholars also benefit from a number of enrichment programs sponsored by the Foundation, including travel abroad, career networking activities, and a leadership speaker series.
