Proud Sunset Graduates

Another school year is coming to a close, and I want to thank all our students, teachers, team members and families for working hard to ensure that we close this year strong.

Dallas ISD celebrates its yearly State of the District event

Contrary to previous events, this year, Dallas ISD held its annual State of the District almost at the end of the school year–and it makes more sense to do it this way. As a leading school district in Texas, we had an opportunity to showcase the shared wins and collective excellence of our stellar students and top-notch educators during the last year.

This time, also for the first time, we had the opportunity to honor our teachers and principals of the year simultaneously. All of our teachers do an outstanding job every day, and it seemed appropriate to celebrate the very best as part of our yearly review. Join me in celebrating our very own Ivan Moreno, a fifth-grade bilingual teacher at Marcus Elementary, for being named Elementary Teacher of the Year. Mr. Moreno is an example to his students, teammates, and everyone who lives in District 1.

Graduation Dates Set

Our seniors’ big day is coming up. As our graduates close out their time at Dallas ISD and begin a new path, I want to tell them that everyone in District 1 is rooting for their success in whatever endeavor they wish to pursue going forward.

W.T. White High School’s commencement will occur on Saturday, May 20, at 6 p.m. The following weekend, on May 27, Thomas Jefferson will have its ceremony at noon. Both events will take place at Alfred J. Loos Sports Complex in Dallas. For information on the graduation schedule, tickets and parking, or how to watch live, please visit www.dallasisd.org/graduations.

Pre-K Registration is still ongoing

Don’t miss out on registering your Pre-K student to attend one of our thriving Dallas ISD campuses. During this last month, the district will be hosting several events to assist families and answer questions. For more information about these events or how to register, visit www.dallasisd.org/prek.

Farewell to a colleague

Finally, I would like to close this column by thanking Trustee Dustin Marshall for his years of service to Dallas ISD students. As you may know, he decided not to run for another term as trustee for District 2. He and I have served together on the Board of Trustees for many years, and I wish him the best of luck going forward. I also look forward to working together with the new District 2 trustee to keep making Dallas ISD stronger.
