Now that the demolition of the former Valley View Mall is complete, developers are ready to move forward with plans for the site.

In a news conference Tuesday Morning, CEO of Beck Ventures Scott Beck discussed what the city could expect from the first phase of Dallas Midtown. It would be a 250,000-square-foot mixed-use development, including luxury apartments.

The new project could break ground between December and February, according to The Dallas Morning News.

“Dallas Midtown isn’t just a series of structures, it’s a testament to the spirit of unity, diversity and innovation in Dallas” said Beck in the conference recorded by FOX4 News. “Imagine a mixed-use village on a parcel of land larger than Uptown will redefine the North Dallas landscape.”

“Final demolition and clearing of the Valley View site is an important step in the fulfillment of the vision set forth over ten years ago by our city leaders, chambers of commerce, development community and neighbors,” said District 11 City Council Member Jaynie Schultz during the conference.

After multiple fires at the site, the City of Dallas gave the developers a deadline of June 2023 to finish demolition of the problematic Valley View Mall site. The first demolition happened in 2017, and part of the final demolition was this past March.

Advocate has previously reported development plans also include turning the site into the Dallas International District, which would be a part of the 445-acre area that includes a live-work-play district with residences, a park, a Dallas ISD school, retail and office spaces and other amenities.
