Hillcrest High School

The Dallas Education Foundation recently announced inaugural recipients for its HeART of Teaching Discretionary Awards Cycle, with two Hillcrest High School teachers named among the grantees.

The foundation, a direct philanthropic partner of Dallas ISD, named 35 awardees after reviewing grant proposals for arts programs around the city. The 35 grantees will receive nearly $127,000 in funding.

HeART of Teaching grants were awarded after reviewing proposals from DISD educators for arts programs including visual, preforming, theatrical, and musical arts.

Proposals were submitted by May 5, then reviewed by a committee of distinguished individuals in the Metroplex arts community.

“The importance of the arts in education cannot be overstated,” said Dr. Scott Rudes, Dallas ISD’s executive director of Academic Enrichment and Support. “We’re grateful to the Dallas Education Foundation for recognizing the arts, for their continued focus on elevating our teachers, and for funding these amazing projects.”

Karleen Hesselbacher and Theresa Anderson of Hillcrest were named among the grantees in a Dallas ISD news release. Hesselbacher received a grant for her proposed program Equilibrium: Bridging Humans and Nature Through Art, while Anderson was awarded for her Celebrating Culture in our Community program. Anderson is the orchestra teacher at Hillcrest.
