Although Ernest the cat may have gained initial notoriety from a grumpy scowl, he’s got a lot to smile about these days thanks to a Preston Hollow organization.

After testing positive for Sarcoptic Mange (scabies), Ernest was rescued by Dallas Pets Alive! in December of 2022. The cat quickly became a fan favorite due to his uncompromising glare, as seen on his YouTube shorts feature.

Now, months later, Ernest has finally found a home. Due to his YouTube performance, Brooke Simonson eventually decided to adopt Ernest. According to a DPA press release, Ernest now “gives a lot of kisses for a kitten and loves playing with anything on a wand.”

Ernest’s adoption also marks at significant milestone for DPA, as he is the first of their animals to adopted through the DPA Adoption Container. The Adoption Container is a repurposed 40-foot storage container located at Community Beer Company in West Dallas, where patrons can interact with rescue cats in a social setting.

Through the Adoption Container, DPA anticipates a 20% increase in adoptions. The Adoption Container is powered by CUDDLY, a fundraising platform aimed towards improvements in animal welfare.
