Dallas clothier and entrepreneur Raja Ratan, founder of luxury menswear brand Q Clothier and its casual sibling Rye 51, is opening a barber shop called Mr. Winston‘s later this summer at Preston and Royal.

The shop, slated for a July opening, will be Ratan’s second men’s grooming operation in Dallas.

The original Mr. Winston’s is in West Village, where it’s enjoying such success that Ratan plans to roll out eight locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the next 24 months, according to a spokesperson.

The Mr. Winston’s concept “came from a personal need,” says the publicist. “Ratan found he couldn’t get a quality haircut or hot shave in Dallas without being in an overly themed establishment or upsold for subscriptions or grooming packages. He wanted to create an elevated but approachable hub in his community for men to come get a haircut, shave, have a friendly conversation — or simply relax.”

To ensure the latter, Mr. Winston’s honors the “no chat request,” or “silent chair,” something that’s become increasingly popular in women’s salons.

“Often used as a time of relaxation and reprieve in founder Ratan’s busy workday, he desired to offer this option within booking for patrons who wish to have minimal conversation during their appointment,” according to the announcement. Clients also have the option to prepay for a seamless and contactless checkout.

The Preston Hollow Mr. Winston’s, located next to Central Market, is further described as an “elevated,” 10-chair barbershop that offers quality haircuts and facial grooming for “an approachable price.”

Designed by Dallas’s Foxcroft Studio, the barbershop nods to traditions of the past without forsaking contemporary comforts and elegance, featuring navy subway tiles, vaulted ceilings, warm walnut wood framed mirrors around each station, pops of Carrara marble and hints of brass.

The icing on the cake — or frothy foam on the ale, if you will — is Winston’s complimentary beer and whiskey from the “top-notch” in-house bar.

Upon opening in West Village, Mr. Winston’s introduced its own line of men’s grooming products, including
custom-scented pomades (think cinder and smoke, vanilla oud, whiskey rose) and hair and beard moisturizers.

Raja Ratan’s family has been in the tailoring industry for 50-plus years, as he explains in a Voyage Dallas Q+A.

He says he studied finance at University of Texas and lasted just one year as a financial consultant before “going back to [his] roots to start the first 1,000-square-foot custom men’s clothing shop.”

His stores are all over the place (Houston, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Little Rock and “looking at DC, NYC, and Los Angeles”) but he started in Dallas and moved outward from there,” he told Mr. magazine. Plus, former Cowboy Troy Aikman is the Q Clothier and Rye 51 spokesmodel.
