The popular podcast, ‘SmartLess’ – a trio of celebrity comedy friends hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett – recently aired a pre-recorded episode with Preston Hollow neighbor and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban

The show itself can be characterized as a chitchat between close friends who just happen to be a star-studded team of hosts. In each episode, one of the hosts invites a ‘mystery guest’ to share insights in different fields. Previous guests have ranged from President Joe Biden, Will Ferrell, Sandra Bullock, and most recently, our friendly neighbor Mark Cuban.

“This man went from banking to bartending to business software and is one of the pioneers of putting audio on the internet,” Will Arnett introduces Mark Cuban and his accolades. “He not only buys and sells companies but is also immersed in the entertainment industry. He’s not one of my favorite sharks, he is my favorite shark, it’s Mark Cuban!”

The crowd erupted in surprised cheers as Mark Cuban is welcomed on stage in Chicago for the live show of the podcast. Although the episode was released on Aug. 10, the episode was pre-recorded earlier this year. Almost immediately, he’s asked about his outfit and Cuban admits to wearing Maverick’s player, Luka Doncic’s signature kicks from his shoe line.

“The Maverick’s were awful and I just made a lot of money,” Cuban says about when he decided to buy the Mavericks. “ There’s no energy or nothing in the arena and I told myself I could do a better job than this. So I was like, why don’t I just buy this thing?”

This casual thing that Cuban mentions is the Mavericks team which needed a new ringleader in 2000. Throughout the interview, Cuban shares other business tactics and what helped him become a success. It wasn’t overnight or without failures and Cuban isn’t shy about the times he missed out on an opportunity.

“When doing micro solutions, I remember vividly, I would be in bed and be hungover and say we’ve been in business for two months, we’ve been in business for three months. Just being terrified it wouldn’t last.”

For those that don’t know, not only did Cuban buy our basketball team, but he was a pioneer during the heyday of the internet. Putting doing those stakes helped him become a key planner in the technology and entertainment industry. Since the first inception of getting into business trading and being a business titan, Cuban owns shares in over 250 companies.

“I’m a quick learner and so when I go into new technologies, I can pick stuff up and I’m able to see what’s next and an angle,” Cuban said. “To me, it just makes sense.”

The podcast continued to probe Cuban for business insider tips, his pharmaceutical company, and even pitched the Shark a product.

“It doesn’t matter how many times you fail,” Mark Cuban once said. “You only have to be right once.”
