There was a buzz from the Thomas Jefferson High School community as they celebrated the completion of their new football stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 12 just in time for their homecoming game.

The dedication ceremony was attended by students and the school community from both Thomas Jefferson High School and Walnut Hill International Leadership Academy.

In 2019, an EF-3 tornado severely destroyed the school and the nearby middle school, Walnut Hill Elementary School. Over the last four years, initiatives have been made to rebuild the school. Hellas Construction was behind the finished product, a construction company that also provides turf for the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Dallas ISD, the Dallas Cowboys, the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation and the NFL Foundation pledged $1 million toward helping the school’s reconstruction efforts, including their football field. Dallas Cowboys players and cheerleaders were also in attendance.

This is the start of a new partnership between Dallas Cowboys and Dallas ISD elementary school. For the next three years, the school district will receive NFL program kits that include footballs, flag belts, participation certificates, football curriculum and rules and nutrition tips for supportive and healthy habits around physical health.

The next Jefferson game will be this Friday, Sept. 18 against the W.H Adamson.
