The Northaven Trail Bridge will add a $65,000 mural aimed at improving the aesthetics of the western ramp part of the bridge. The Friends of Northaven Trail has selected Chera Creative as the project’s muralist; it will cover all eight columns on the western ramp. Before any progress can be made, Friends Northaven Trail must meet its $65,000 target.

All funds raised will go towards the large-scale mural across the bridge.

“We’ve never had anything this significant that we’ve been raising money for,” Dorothy Buechel, vice president of marketing and communications and landscaping committee co-chair said.

She hopes that once the mural is completed, it will attract nearby pedestrians to the site.

Volunteers will contribute toward the painting application, which should take approximately two weeks depending on weather conditions.

This project will display “realistic” flowers and eco-friendly living creatures in the area.

“I think art just brings joy to the community like it just creates a sense of purpose,” Brooker said. “It makes the community feel a sense of belonging and purpose to the area when you can tell that the city is cutting money and effort into adding art in their area to make it a place that they want to call their own.”

The artwork will aim to provide an educational aspect for visitors to learn about botanical names and the history of the trail. Buechel and Brooker hope to have the mural installed at the trail before the end of the year. Fundraising is ongoing, donations can be made through Friends of Northaven Trail website.
