Ursuline Academy of Dallas honored President Gretchen Kane with the Work of Heart Award during its 150th-anniversary celebration last week.

At the commemorative assembly, Kane was presented with The Catholic Foundation Work of Heart Award by Anna LeBlanc, a senior development officer at The Catholic Foundation and a Ursuline graduate.

Kane has served as the school’s president for 12 years. She joined Ursuline in the summer of 2012 after serving as president of Ursuline Academy in New Orleans.

During her time as president, Kane introduced a new comprehensive campaign to further the spirit of St. Angela, the Ursuline Sisters’ founder. Kane received the award for exemplifying its mission statement daily, as affirmed by colleagues.

“Gretchen is an approachable and inclusive administrator, with a remarkable ability to connect and motivate people,” a coworker at the school said in a nomination.

In addition to Kane’s recognition, the Ursuline Mothers Club presented the Beth Rayfield Memorial Challenge Award, or “Serviam Award,” to a sophomore student exemplifying the principles of Serviam, meaning “I will serve” in Latin.

Other festivities included Ursuline students unveiling a 1974 time capsule, hosting a fashion show featuring different uniforms throughout the years and participating in a game of Ursuline Family Feud.

Kane will soon leave her position and Dr. Andrea Shurley will take over as president July 2024.
