Hockaday student Oluwabori Fadairo won the 2024 Texas Poetry Out Loud and will move to the national round in Washington, DC.

Fadairo will represent Texas in the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest competition in Washington, DC from April 30 to May 2. On Saturday, Feb. 24, Fadairo and nine other finalists of the Texas Poetry Out Loud took the stage at the Bullock Texas State History Museum.

Poetry Out Loud is a national competition produced by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. The program provides scholarships to high school students and gives money for poetry books to each winner’s school’s library. The winner of the competition receives a $20,000 scholarship.

Dallas also saw victory with Booker T. Washington High School student Maxine Louthan as this year’s runner-up.
