Tacos El Metro anticipates opening this week or next week at Walnut Hill and Marsh Lane.

While the official menu remains under wraps, their Instagram teases at offerings like tacos, slow-roasted hogs, and huesitos. Another hint at their menu comes from a couple of pop-up events they last year in their backlot, patrons sampled items such as ribeye trompo, slow-roasted pork leg and Guajillo-marinated chicken.

Tacos El Metro first shared their restaurant news in March 2023 opening in Walnut Plaza, taking over the Velvet Elvis lounge that closed two years ago.

The new restaurant is led by 29-year-old chef Michael Garcia, who brings experience working at both Odelay and Fachini. At Fachini, an Italian-American restaurant near Highland Park, Garcia served as the sous chef and executive chef for five years.

In a 2020 article from Central Track, Garcia shared his long-term dream of opening his own restaurant.

“A dream we’ve been working on for the last few years is finally coming to life,” Garcia shared in an Instagram post. “As I now shift my focus to Latin cuisine, I get to introduce to you guys my passion for Latino America… FIRST through a plate of tacos.”

Tacos El Metro is already a neighborhood favorite without opening its doors with many Dallasites commenting on posts, asking for the opening.

We will also be closely watching the countdown.
