Neighborhood schools

Dallas ISD provides a world-class educational experience, emphasizing excellence for all students at all our schools. On March 23 at Centennial Hall in Fair Park, we’re hosting the More Choice Expo to guide families through their neighborhood schools, highlighting innovative learning models, extracurricular activities, and various opportunities in our neighborhood schools. Representatives from over 191 neighborhood schools will be available for families to meet and gather information to make informed choices for their children. Visit www.dallasisd.org/morechoice for additional details.

 Upcoming budget meeting

Dallas ISD has hosted a series of community meetings this past month to discuss the 2024-2025 budget. This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the proposed budget and provide feedback. For families in District 1, the meeting will be at 6 p.m., Monday, March 25, at Hillcrest High School. I hope to see everyone there.

Eclipse activities

Remember that on April 8, Dallas will be on the path of a total solar eclipse. For many of our students, this will be the first, and maybe only, opportunity to witness and learn from this natural event. Thanks to the Perot Museum’s generosity, all Dallas ISD students will receive eclipse glasses, and each school will organize its own observation activities. Reach out to your student’s teacher or main office for more details.

Celebrating our student-athletes

More than 117 Dallas ISD student-athletes recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college. I want to congratulate Tyler N, Markavious J., Demetrius T., Demarkis T., Keon W., and Fernando Delgado, from W.T. White, who committed to play football in their respective colleges during signing day.

Highlighting District 1

Congratulations to Ms. Rosamaria Alvarado-Jimenez, a kindergarten teacher at F.P. Caillet Elementary School, for being named one of the District Teacher of the Year nominees. The district will announce the winners during the State of the District event on April 4. The finalists and winners will receive generous prizes ranging from $1,500 to $5,000.

Trustee Edwin Flores, District 1
