Last month, residents of Edgemere Senior Living united to support the Genesis Women’s Shelter with essentials and flowers in honor of International Women’s History Month.

The collaboration stemmed from an idea by lifestyle specialist Courtney Lammons, who also leads the Edgemere’s Floral Club which meets every Friday afternoon. Lammons wanted to partner with a local nonprofit supporting women for International Women’s History Month. The 30 members of the Floral Club dedicated an hour to assembling floral arrangements.

Residents packed donations and prepared floral arrangements on Friday, March 29 at 2 p.m. Donations were delivered on Tuesday, April 2, in seven boxes of donations.

“[Gensis] loved it,” Lammons said. “They were so appreciative and they were so excited. When they brought the flowers to their clients, they said the clients were thrilled. They all felt really special, loved and cared for.”

The donations included deodorants, lotions, shampoos and hair ties. The floral arrangements were thoughtfully placed around the shelter to enhance a warm and welcoming environment.

The new collaboration between the two has the potential to lead to more in the future, especially next March for International Women’s History Month.

“I think further down the line in the summer and the winter, we’ve talked about doing pajama dries,” Lammons said. “We’ve talked about what to do during the holidays for children.”
