Neighborhood trail users may be able to go just a little farther north on the White Rock Creek Trail, after an extension is completed next year.

The city council on Wednesday will look at authorizing a contract to extend the White Rock Creek Trail in Far North Dallas from Valley View Park to Hillcrest Park.

There are plans for a small loop trail and overlook at Hillcrest Park, which is on Hillcrest between Alpha and Spring Valley, just down the street from the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

The project will cost about $1.4 million, coming from 2006 bond funds and debt service funds used to pay for large capital projects. Out of nine other bids received Aug. 15, the city is using A S Con, Inc.

Right now, the White Rock Creek Trail extends north all the way from White Rock Lake, crosses Central Expressway, winds around Medical City and stops at Valley View Park.

The design for the trail extension was completed in April 2011. Construction should begin in November and be completed by April 2014.

The city recently re-opened the trail after it was temporarily closed for the LBJ Express construction, and the Cottonwood Creek Trail received some new signage.
