The Friends of the Katy Trail are the latest ones to jump on the ‘go-green’ bandwagon. The group’s landscape advisory committee just launched an all-organic fertilization program.

That means from now on, a custom liquid compost mix will be sprayed on the new plantings on the trail’s northern and southern ends. The first round of spraying just happened, and there will be another three applications over the next year. The spray contains fish emulsion and seaweed, which is good for the plants, but not exactly fragrant. So if you smell something like dead fish on the trail, it’s just the latest green initiative.
