Fried green tomatoes at Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen

One of our most popular neighborhood eateries is ending its run in Preston Center. Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen announced via Facebook that the restaurant has closed. The same owners, Kent Rathbun Concepts, will open a new place in the same space this fall.

“After four years of operations, Kent Rathbun Concepts has decided to close Rathbun’s Blue Plate Kitchen and re-concept the space in the fall of 2014. ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed satisfying our Blue Plate guests over the years and look forward to hosting you at our other restaurants in the market, Abacus, Jasper’s or at an event hosted by Kent Rathbun Catering,’ said owner and chef Kent Rathbun. ‘We are actively engaged in discussions on future locations, excited about the recently new menu innovations introduced at our existing restaurants and continuing our broad community involvement of which we have been a participant over the last 14 years.”

We featured Blue Plate Kitchen back in 2011 for its innovative comfort food —  such as the fancy fried green tomatoes and the lobster coleslaw made with a vinaigrette instead of mayonnaise. The restaurant also has been a popular brunch spot.

Stay tuned for details about what’s taking its place.
