Three Preston Hollow visionaries will participate in this year’s Dallas Festival of Ideas at Fair Park. The event, sponsored by The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture and The Dallas Morning News, explores ways we can improve our city.

Speakers will present their ideas for change and then those ideas will be “fostered into action during a year-long process once the festival has ended,” says the announcement. Sort of like a less theoretical TED conference.

Preston Hollow resident Gail Warrior will discuss entrepreneurship in Dallas, a subject about which she knows quite a bit (see this post for evidence.) Another of our neighbors, Regina Montoya, who chair’s the mayor’s Task Force on Poverty, will talk about ways we can create a healthier city. Finally, John Mead, a biology teacher at St. Mark’s, will share his thoughts on “Dallas’ scientific and cultural literacy in relation to race and class.” You might remember Mead from our September blog post about his friendship with Lee R. Berger, the scientist who discovered Homo Naledi.

The event, which has been titled The United City, takes place Feb. 19-20. Thanks to a sponsorship from Bank of America, it’s free to attend. Click here for more detailed information.
