It was a team effort at Edgemere retirement community, which brought residents and staff together to raise money for the Dallas chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. The group raised $1,500 at their annual charity garage sale.

Resident Ann Jobe has volunteered every year to help sort, price and sell the donated items.

“It’s very important to me that I support the Alzheimer’s Association because I have close friends and family who are living with Alzheimer’s,” says Jobe. “Helping to organize our community’s garage sale each year makes me feel like I’m doing my part to give back to a cause that’s close to the hearts of many residents at Edgemere.”

During the sale, residents donated furniture, clothing and other items to be sold in the facility’s parking lot. The house-keeping staff pitched in on the heavy lifting and organization to make the event a success.

It was just one of many events Edgemere hosts on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association, which has received more than $25,000 from the retirement community to date. Other community events included the Forget-Me-Not Gala, which raised $15,000; the ongoing event Casual for a Cause; and the upcoming event Hoe Down, which includes a free barbecue dinner, refreshments, live music and horseback rides. The Hoe Down raises nearly $8,000 each year.
