Every day, ordinary people — right here in our neighborhood — are doing extraordinary things. Volunteers treat the ill, rally ’round the helpless, feed empty bellies, and nourish hungry souls. And though they ask for nothing in return, such altruism often begets unique gifts: New friends. Learned skills. And unmatched feelings of hope and satisfaction.

Feral Friends

Feral Friends has only about four volunteers who trap cats, so there’s a big need for more help. If you’d like to join their effort, call 972.671.0429 or visit feralfriends.org. If you can’t volunteer but would still like to help, consider adopting a cat from Feral Friends. Visit the website or the Feral Friends adoption center in PetSmart at 16821 Coit, open Saturdays, noon-4 p.m. and Sundays, 2-4 p.m.

Our Friends’ Place

Our Friends Place needs professionals who can mentor the girls and women living in these group homes. If you would like to volunteer your time, call 214.520.6268 or visit ourfriendsplace.org.

The Arc of Dallas

The Arc of Dallas could use other volunteers to assist its staff during summer camps for children and classes for adults. If you’d like to learn more about how you can help, call 214.634.9810 or visit arcdallas.org.

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store

The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is run entirely by volunteers. Inventory includes everything from cribs to coffee tables — all of which brings in proceeds given solely toward helping the needy in our neighborhood.

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store needs neighbors who are willing to merchandise inventory, work registers, and help unload donations. If you’d like to help, call 214.373.7837 or visit svdpthrift.org.
