The George Bush Turnpike speed limit is 60 miles per hour. Because I live about half a mile from this toll road I travel it often, so I can tell you a lot of drivers speed here–including Brint Ryan, who was clocked driving 104 miles per hour here back in 2002.

That’s just one of the 16 charges he’s racked up since the late 1980s within Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties according to the Dallas Morning News. Those charges include driving at unsafe speeds, running a stop sign, and making an illegal lane change. Courts ended up dismissing the most of these citations, often because Ryan reached a plea agreement with prosecutors or the officers who wrote the tickets were no-shows at court.

Ryan’s campaign for the District 13 seat, however, stresses public safety. In fact, he’d like to see the city hire 200 more police officers this year, despite the government’s estimated $100 million budget deficit.

Ryan says his driving citations don’t mean he’s not committed to public safety.

"I’m innocent until proven guilty,” he told the Dallas Morning News.  “If I felt like I was doing something wrong, I would have paid the tickets.”
