In an industry dominated by sappy sentiment, a neighborhood teams wins big with irreverent humor.

The local brother and sister duo, Cathy and Peter Henry who founded the brilliantly bawdy J-Dig Cards company we told you about in the October 2008 Advcoate won a prestigious Louie Award last night at the 21st Annual International Greeting Card Awards competition in New York City. It’s pretty much the Academy Awards of the greeting card biz. The line, sold at Paperie & Co in Mockingbird station, offers colorfully witty and slightly wicked wordplay ranging from PG-13 to R-rated (the collection that won Best Humorous Holiday Boxed Set, "Tits the Season", features a female torso wearing two selectively placed gift bows).

"The competition drew over 800 entries in 58 categories from nearly 140 U.S. and international publishing companies, including those in Brazil, Canada, England and India," according to an e-mail I received from Cathy this morning. She says, "This is a huge honor. We are proud of our line, and to receive this recognition from the industry is extremely exciting and validating as we move into our second year.”

Yep, it’s a pretty big deal. For more Digs, go here.
