Last week I told you that DISD trustee Edwin Flores has decided to run for reelection this fall.

He recently told via email that he has decided to run again because although there’s been some stellar progress made during his five years serving District 1, he feels his work is not done yet.

“During my tenure we helped complete the 2002 bond on time, on budget and without any lawsuits,” he told me. “Among our [DISD] achievements are the highest percentage ever of Recognized and Exemplary schools — including the vast majority of schools in District 1 — and the highest percentage of employee job satisfaction since I have been on the board. But let’s not kid ourselves, we still have a long way toward institutionalizing the changes that we have made during the five years I have served the students, parents, teachers and taxpayers of District 1.”

Freelance writer Linus Spiller and retired salesman Melvin Cannon have each filed to run against Flores this fall. Both of those candidates ran against Flores back in 2005. No word yet on if anyone else will be entering the race, but I’ll keep you posted.
