Today’s a proud day for DISD folks in Preston Hollow — our neighborhood schools have earned two top honors:

First up, 55 DISD schools were named to the “2009 Just for the Kids Higher Performing Schools” list. Just for the Kids is a nonprofit that identifies academically successful schools, collects data on why they are successful, and then helps educators adopt those practices. This list recognizes schools that have academically outperformed other schools with similar demographics.

Schools in our neighborhood to make “2009 Just for the Kids Higher Performing Schools” list include:

*E.D. Walker Middle School

*George Bannerman Dealey Montessori Vanguard and International Academy

*W.T. White High School (one of only two comprehensive DISD high schools to get the honor)

*Walnut Hill Elementary School

Next up, the TEA’s Division of NCLB Program Coordination has recognized 24 DISD elementary schools as “Distinguished” for their outstanding performance over the last three years. The list is broken into two portions: “Distinguished Performance,” which means the school earned at least a Recognized status for the last two years and are Exemplary this year — and “Distinguished Progress,” which means the school increased it status from either Academically Unacceptable or Acceptable two years ago, to and Exemplary this year.

“Distinguished Performance” schools in our neighborhood include:

*Arthur Kramer Elementary School

“Distinguished Progress" schools in our neighborhood include:

*Harry C. Withers Elementary School

*Nathan Adams Elementary School
