The Preston Royal Library at Royal and the Tollway is 44 years old, has a leaky roof and is about 6,000 square feet too small when compared to newer Dallas libraries. Councilwoman Ann Margolin will meet with Melshire Estates and Preston Royal Northwest neighbors at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the E.D. Walker auditorium for feedback on the proposed site for relocation – the abandoned Korean Young Nak Presbyterian Church at Forest and Nuestra.

The 2006 bond package included funds to acquire a new location to replace the library but no funds to build the new one. If the city buys the property, the church will likely be torn down. Money for the building would come in the next bond package within the next two years.

The new library would be similar to the Bachman Lake Branch, which spans 21,000 square feet and has a 60,000-volume collection along with wireless internet, computer stations and energy efficient features. Quite an upgrade from leaky roofs.

The city wants neighborhood input before moving forward with the acquisition. City Manager Mary Suhm and traffic engineer Beth Ramirez also will attend Tuesday’s meeting to address any questions or concerns.
