Brent Stein, a 1960 graduate of Hillcrest High School and a leader in the local 1960s counterculture, died last week at age 68. He was best known as Stoney Burns, editor of the underground newspaper, Dallas Notes. He also created Buddy Magazine, a publication in honor of musician Buddy Holly.
The Observer has this nice bit of history, which tells about the Dallas Police Department’s 1971 raid on Dallas Notes and the Supreme Court Justice who sided with Stein.
