As the city’s watering restrictions go into effect Dec. 12, North Haven Gardens is hosting a free series to help gardeners learn how to comply with the rules while still maintaining a beautiful landscape.

The first program of the “Heat Hardy” series is noon-1 p.m. Dec. 14, and it will continue through through January. And, it’s about time the city implemented Stage 1 watering restrictions, says Nikki Rose, with NHG public relations.

“The restrictions that the city has put in place are what people should be doing every day,” she says. “There’s no reason to be watering that much. It’s not going to encourage healthy plantings. We’ve been saying this for years, and now the city is requiring it.”

The basic rules require that we only water our lawns twice a week between 6 and 10 p.m. Violators could pay a fine of $250 to $2,000. Preston Hollow residents may be more affected by these rules than people in other parts of the city as our lots are generally larger, requiring more landscaping.
