Our own W.T. White has some bragging rights on the world stage at the London Olympics. Two graduates are a part of the games this year.

Shannon Land Gillespy, a 1979 alumna, is on the coaching staff for the U.S. Olympic swim team, serving as team manager for the open-water swimmers. The Denton-Record Chronicle interviewed Gillespy recently about her duties, which include taking care of athletes and coaches away from the pool.

Dennis Bowsher, W.T. White Class of 2001, is on the U.S. pentathlon team. He’s making his Olympic debut, having narrowly missed a spot at the Beijing Olympics. Modern pentathlon may be one of the lesser-known Olympic sports, with ancient roots. Athletes compete in five games: freestyle swim, cross-country run, an equestrian jump, fencing and target shooting. Pretty much all the best sports rolled into one. See the schedule here.
