One of our favorite live music venues around Preston Hollow has some special guests this week.
Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse features Robin and Linda Williams and Their Fine Group, who are regulars on the public radio show, “A Prairie Home Companion.”
Robin has ties to the neighborhood. His father, who died a few years ago, was the Rev. Murphy Williams and served as an associate parish at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.
Their music style is “steeped in the traditional music of the Appalachian Mountains, the Mississippi Delta, the British Isles, Louisiana and Quebec,” according to the band’s bio.
Of their decades-long work on “A Prairie Home Companion,” the show’s host Garrison Keillor says, “They really represent the heart, the core and the soul of our radio show.”
The show is at 8 p.m. this Friday. Uncle Calvin’s is inside NorthPark Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. A percentage of proceeds benefit local nonprofits.
